Heat or Eat?
As Michigan reaches frigid temperatures, far too many of our neighbors are worrying about how they will pay for heating and food. This impossible and heartbreaking choice will impact the 1 in 7 people — including 1 in 5 children — who are facing food insecurity in our community.
“I’ve been turning down the heat and wearing more clothes,” said Michelle H., who visits Gleaners’ community mobile food distributions to make ends meet. “I can’t believe the cost of food. It’s just outrageous, and it’s two dollar increases, it’s not just cents. I’m on a fixed income, and it’s taking a chunk out of my Social Security.”
We want everyone to have warm homes and enough food to eat but to do this, we need your help right now. Gleaners is facing historically low levels of donated food, while food prices and other expenses continue to climb. Your support will directly fund our efforts to deliver nutritious food by the truckload through our more than 400 partners, including schools, shelters, soup kitchens, and food pantries, as well as our own mobile food distributions.
Together, let's take one worry off the table for our neighbors in need. Every $1 donated = 3 meals. Please help provide winter food relief to kids and families with a generous gift to Gleaners today.
